Alison Immormino

Alison Immormino is proud to be both Pitt faculty and a former Pitt student—she graduated from the English Department and is happy to be back as an instructor this time! Prior to her time at Pitt, Alison taught full-time in the high school English classroom focusing on British Literature. During her undergraduate career at Pitt, she worked at the Pitt Writing Center as a Peer Tutor. The Writing Center is one of her favorite parts of her time as a student at Pitt and is also a valued resource she continues to share with her students. She also worked at the writing center at Duquesne University, where she earned her Master of Arts in Teaching, Secondary Education.

Alison’s academic interests focus on pedagogy in the literature and writing classroom. She finds studying how to teach writing effectively both deeply rewarding and personally fruitful. She has recently published her writing in English Journal (2022) under the title “Deep Reading in the High School Classroom.” That article explores ways to teach non-linear pieces of literature through diagramming and visualization.

When not in the classroom, Alison is at home with her two young children. She lives with her husband, kids, and cat in the North Hills.
