Biography

Alison, an Atlanta native of Yankee descent, came to Pittsburgh in the fall of 2016 to begin a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition. Her earlier study of English literature at Berry College and experiences as a high school English teacher in Mississippi Delta public schools (via Teach for America) led her interests primarily toward first-year composition courses, Writing Center studies, and inclusive pedagogy.  Her research interests also include gender and media theory, queer studies, critical race theory, and social justice. She's working to become more familiar with graphic novels and comic books, especially as they intersect with student engagement/pedagogy, rhetoric, and composition.
