JC Lee

JC's Affiliations: First Year Programs, Pitt Prison Education Project

JC Lee (they/she) is interested in the essay in its many forms—personal, critical, nature, lyric, list. Their writing has appeared in Hotel Amerika, Mid-American Review, Critical Quarterly, and others. In 2016 JC was awarded an Edward Albee Foundation Fellowship and in 2017 their essay, Abbatoir Blues, won the Jellybucket award for Creative Nonfiction. JC Lee regularly teaches Senior Seminar in Nonfiction and Readings in Contemporary Nonfiction, as well Writing the Body, Art of the Essay, and Lyric Essay. JC Lee also teaches in the Pitt Education Program, where Pitt students and incarcerated students read and write together. JC’s most recent essay, Monongahela, is forthcoming in VQR and part of an ongoing project on Pittsburgh, the self- taught painter John Kane, and magic, for which JC has been awarded a 2023-24 MacDowell Fellowship.
