Yasmine Anderson’s research investigates how twenty-first century popular culture in the United States makes use of Black women’s classic blues from the 1920s and 1930s to remix the sexual-economic politics developed by earlier blues women in the context of our contemporary landscape.
Before joining University of Pittsburgh’s doctoral program in 2018, Anderson received her MA from the University of Chicago's Masters of Arts Program in the Humanities. Prior to that, she received her BA in English at the University of Virginia as a student in the Modern Literature and Culture area program. While studying at the University of Virginia, she also earned a minor in film studies.
