Before joining Pittsburgh’s PhD program in 2018, Yasmine Anderson earned her MA from the University of Chicago's Masters of Arts Program in the Humanities. Prior to that, she received her BA in English at the University of Virginia as a student in the Modern Literature and Culture area program. While studying at the University of Virginia, she also earned a minor in film studies.
Emerging from Critical Race Theory, her interest in rhetorics of racial authenticity and il/legibility inform her work on the possibilities of formal hybridity within Black literature, film, and music. Her current project focuses on Black female blues singers and critical ambiguity as artistic practice
