Description

Are you interested in completing research and communicating your findings in easy-to-understand language for an environmental law and justice nonprofit that supports community democracy?

Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services is a 501(c)(3) environmental law and justice nonprofit that believes that all communities should have access to the tools of justice, and be able to drive what they want for their air, water, and the places where they live, work, and play. We work toward this vision by providing support to communities to drive their environmental futures; client-centered legal representation regardless of income level; and education to young attorneys in legal services entrepreneurship.

Fair Shake is seeking a Community Democracy Research Intern for the Spring 2026 semester. The Community Democracy Research Intern will be a part of Fair Shake’s Community Democracy Program. This individual will support communities moving their vision to action by researching, assessing, translating, and documenting municipal ordinances, policies, and proven practices to help show possibilities for change around ideas expressed by community.

To apply, please send an e-mail explaining why this role excites you, along with a copy of your résumé to: Meagan Niebler, Community Democracy Program Manager at mniebler@fairshake-els.org.
