Description

Summer internship program: The Pitt News, in partnership with the Department of English, offers four paid internships in the summer semester. The goals of this program are for students to write daily; learn technology that will help them market their skills after graduation; and become familiar with working under daily newspaper and media deadlines and expectations.

Students will become staff writers in one area of four—News, Sports, Culture, and Opinions—and learn how to write and report on a daily basis. They will handle breaking news, features, and advance stories as determined by the editor. They will also work on the New Student Guide that is sent to all incoming first-years.

This internship will give students the opportunity to write regularly while also adding work on social media, and with technology such as photography and video. The Pitt News will bring in professionals to help with the social media and technology training. This internship may lead to continuing work as a member of The Pitt News in the fall and will make them more hirable upon graduation.

Applications open in March with the deadline of March 31. For questions, contact Kevin Smith (KPS55@pitt.edu) or Gayle Rogers (grogers@pitt.edu).
